There are number of things that can keep us out of the kitchen, from the lure of the takeaway menu to a lack of confidence in your cooking skills. But few things are likely to put you off spending time in your home’s most important room than if it looks unappealing.

If your kitchen doors are worn or outdated, it can put you off each time you enter the room. You may find yourself eating all your meals in the living room, rather than at the kitchen table; or eating breakfast on the go because you can’t stomach to eat at home.

Replacement kitchen doors are the answer. And with such a broad range of choice available, there’s something to suit every taste; whether you want the bright and crisp finish of white and cream kitchen cupboard doors, stylish ultra and high gloss or classic wood grain.

There are colours, styles and designs for every scale of project and they can be cut to fit the exact measurements of your home. Many come with free handles too and a number of kitchen door suppliers can complete your stylish new kitchen with high quality kitchen worktops.

Once in place, you’ll feel happier to spend more time preparing and enjoying meals. You may even want to entertain friends and family over dinner parties. So if you’re unhappy with your kitchen, it could be time for a brand new look.

Finding the perfect sofa for your living room, study or snug can be a challenge. Sofas are large pieces of furniture and can really dominate a room so it’s important to find the right one. Sofas, settees and three piece suites are a big investment, so you’ll need to think carefully about your decision before you commit. Let’s take a look at some of the key factors to consider when choosing from the various affordable sofas at Furniture Choice in the context of your specific requirements.

Your sofa needs to fit in with your lifestyle. One of the first things to think about when purchasing a new sofa is usage: who is going to be using the sofa? How often is the sofa going to be used? Will it suffer much wear and tear? If you have a young family, you’ll need to choose your colour and material carefully.

Leather sofas are a stylish option for any family home and their wipe clean surface means that they’ll fare better than fabric covered upholstery if there are any accidents or spills. Faux-leather can be a stylish and affordable choice and is even better than real leather at withstanding the inevitable wear and tear caused by young children.

Whether you opt for a fabric or a leather sofa, you should pay careful attention to colour. Naturally, the colour of your sofa should work with your décor. However, don’t be afraid to experiment with bright colours and bold patterns in the living room.

White and pale coloured sofas are perfect for professional singles and couples who spend much of their time at work, but are a nightmare if you have children. Patterns, on the other hand, can create a grown-up, stylish vibe in the living room, as well as helping to mask everyday dirt and damage. Textured fabrics are also a good option for both stylish city apartments and busy family homes, as they are comfortable and make a real statement, whilst being versatile and durable.

If you enjoy entertaining, you may also want to consider choosing a futon or sofa-bed, so you can accommodate extra guests. There are plenty of stylish sofa beds around and contemporary models are far easier to put up than in the past. What’s more, many of the most fashionable sofas can be converted into beds, meaning you don’t have to compromise on style.

It seems like a funny thing to call a problem, but plenty of home bathrooms have towels hanging in inconvenient places. Whether no forethought was involved in the placement of them, or it wasn’t until after they were installed that it became evident there was a more suitable area for them makes not difference as without effort to rectify the situation it becomes a daily hassle. Water is dripped from the sink to the towel rack, and from the shower to the towel rack, making it necessary to then dry the floor.

Or maybe, it is not so much that a true problem is created with the placement of the towels, but that it is a darn inconvenience. Either way, why simply suck it up for weeks, months and years on end? You need not remove the pre-existing racks, simply attach hooks where you can easily access your towels. For unbelievably little effort and inconsequential expense you can fix something for the better, as they come in forms that look like shiny, stylish metal (but aren’t so they are cheapola) and have adhesive backing to attach where you please.

Just think, they will take up very little space and make things nicer, definitely sounds worth it when you put it that way I know. After you’ve done this job, think about how you can get that collection of bottles of the rim of the tub, or minimize the things within the bathroom which are making it look and feel cluttered.

A few years ago the all the home goods stores were using old suitcases as props for their window and floor displays. Ever since I first saw them being used in a decorative way I have had intentions of doing the same in my own home. However, since those hard sided suitcases were so popular, they were difficult to find. But now I have located a great one, am going to turn it into a table. If this sounds like an interesting DIY project, and you are already the owner of such a suitcase, then this is a great way to upcycle it. Of course, you can also purchase one to do it like I did, and revel in the idea of not only creating a solution for table top space, but for storage too.

You will need the following supplies, aside from the suitcase itself.

Four table legs

Sixteen screws

Four matching table legs

Particleboard

As for tools, just a tape measure and saw if you are not able to buy the particleboard precut to the dimensions of the suitcase bottom. Otherwise, the only other implement is a drill. If you buy bare table legs, I would consider painting them to coordinate with the suitcase, or a fun colour to bring in some whimsy. If you have a guest bed room, I can’t imagine any table being more perfect than this one. Not sure if you can tell, but I am really happy to be finally doing this project.

For many, February can be the coldest month of the year. As such, we start to look for new ways to keep warm, and begin to hope that spring will be merciful and come early. While we can’t control the weather, we can take measures to make our homes more comfortable through the coldest points.

This year we are making things a little nicer by installing heat lamp bulbs in our bathrooms. So, when we, or our guests head to the bath or shower, we do not dread the entire process because it will be cold in that room. Once you remove your clothing you will become immediately aware of what the real air temperature is, and if you can make it more pleasant without having to invest a great deal of effort of money, then why not do it?

The bulbs only need to be put into the same sockets you will take the regular bulbs out of, no further work required. However, they will provide a wonderful warmth and are not expensive considering they heat and light the space. This is substantially cheaper than anything else (ex. a towel warmer) you could think to use to bring additional cosiness to the room.

Yet, if you have the support of a wall, or fence beautiful bougainvillea and ivy will flourish and become upwardly mobile with just a plain stake in the earth next to the wall or fence. Naturally climbers are motivated to get closer to the sun and its magical life sustaining properties. So, they will do what they can independently to cover the wall and reach direct sunlight.

For plants like honeysuckle and hydrangea it will be beneficial to tie the vines to any support you have going. This way they do not fall over under their own weight of blossoms, or due to gravity working against their climb to the top. Also, remember that climbers are good decorative covering for tree stumps, broken walls barren tree trunks, and so on and so forth. Oh and if you are planning to allow, or train a climber to cover a wall, make sure you have no reason to access the wall, because covered means no access.

Perhaps you have some ornaments that have seen better days, and could do with a little pick me up. Instead of struggling with the decision to get rid of them or continue to hold place them on the backside of the Christmas tree, improve them. In a short time you can give them a whole new appearance, and a life back in the holiday limelight.

Gather the downtrodden ornaments, a small paintbrush, white glue, a bowl and powdered glitter in an appropriate colour/colours. Coat each ornament with glue, and sprinkle glitter over them, while shaking off the excess into the bowl. Place them aside where they will be allowed to sit and dry, and then repeat to ensure a proper coating. Once they are finished, they need not necessarily be returned to the same spot they previously held, they may now be more suitable on a mantel, or as a table display. Their reflective quality will bring a new dimension to them, and after being banished to areas of concealment, they are undoubtedly ready to be oohed and ahhed over.

If your garden in anything like ours, then all of the tools do not make it back to the tools shed. I will not point any fingers, but there is one culprit in our brood who is more guilty of this than any other. I refer to it as “not putting the toys away”. Over the years I have learned that it is best to bargain with this offender, and to get them to clean up by making it easier in one way or another to do.

When it comes to the tools, I was at a bit of a loss for awhile, and then I came across this gem. It is the perfect tool container, as it efficiently does more than just old tools. Make one of these, and you might also find those you garden with are more inclined to return the tools to the allocated space.

The container itself is simply a metal trough, suitable in size for the handheld tools. Fill it with sand up to an inch from the opening. Stir one fourth of a cup of motor oil into the sand to make a moist concoction. This will assist in keeping the tools clean, sharp and rust free. Well as long as they are first wiped down and then actually inserted into the container.

As we have previously discussed, recreating the look of upscale hotel bedrooms is extremely popular right now. Thus, it makes perfect sense to follow this approach through to other rooms in your home. This time we want to guide you through the layout for a hotel style living room and the formula is easy. We want a sleek looking environment that brings the focus into the centre, with no clutter. So we always start this design with corner sofas, as these hug the space and create consistent lines. Then we opt for one large coffee table, one over sized rug, and one contemporary chair and streamline the look with minimalistic art.

More specifically, the sofas we select are always neutral in colour, and are symmetrical, but if we are looking to bring in a pop of colour we do it on the additional chair. The chair is the perfect piece in which to bring in some whimsy, whether it be in shape or colour. The coffee table should be large enough to accommodate use by all those who sit on the sofa, but it should not be chunky. This would be juxtaposed to the overall style. The rug needs to be able to lie beneath all of the furniture, as most hotels have carpeting, so this will bring us closer to a true replica. To finish off the hotel living room design, choose paintings that are abstract, or simplistic.

Alright, so you have committed yourself to reinvigorating your kitchen cabinets with a makeover. And you know you are going to tackle this project with paint, and possibly some new cabinet pulls. But do you know how to go about the painting part properly? Well here is how.

Start by removing the handles. Next, unless you have bare wooden cabinets, you will need to degloss them. If you skip this step the new paint will not adhere the way it should. Once you have completed all the preparations, and they are ready to paint then you should take some time to think about how you want the cabinets to look, and analyse what implements you should use to get that appearance. You could use brushes for the entire thing, but then you should expect there to be visible brushstrokes. If you opted for a roller you can get a good even look, but will have difficulty getting into the harder to reach spaces. Therefore, you might want to use both a roller and a brush. Or, if you are carful, a spray could be the answer to it all, as it will give you a smooth effect. However, if you are not diligent, it can run.
